The game
| |
I now have Mortal Kombats 1-4, Trilogy, and Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. When these games hit the aracades, there were immediate protests from parents saying it was too violent. Ed Boon and John Tobias answered with the Friendships and Babalities, which added a different element to the game. If you beat somebody, and wanted to impress them with a finishing move, you didn't have to kill them! In MK4, the Babalities and Friendships have been retired, and the fatalities once again take charge.^_^ Now, with the arrival of the Dreamcast and Mortal Kombat Gold, the MK world is up for some big changes, and MK5 is due out later this year.

The Movies

I really liked the first movie. It had just the right amount of plot and action mixed together. I just wish we could have seen more of Sub-Zero and Scorpion. The second movie, in my own opinion was a bust. How many characters did we see in a fight scene, have promise to play an integral part, and vanish into thin air in just five minutes(i.e. Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Nightwolf, etc.)? They tried to cram too many characters into too little time. If they had done a series instead, however...

Mortal Kombat Conquest

This unfortunately short-lived series took place in the time where the Great Kung Lao lived. The series is new, but has many spectacular fight scenes. Sub-Zero and Scorpion(my two favorite characters, if you hadn't already guessed) also show up occaisionally. Shang Tsung was imprisoned by Shao Khan for failing to defeat Kung Lao in the tournament, but from his current place of residence, he and his collaborator, Vorpax, can send skilled fighter after skilled fighter to kill Kung Lao and his two comrades, Siro and Taja. Oh, yeah, Raiden is also Kung Lao's advisor and friend, who shows up towards the end of each episode.
